Leganes team wins in Paraw Regatta

A TEAM from Camangay, Leganes won in Sunday’s 35th Paraw Regatta, which was held at Sto. Nino Sur, Villa Beach.

The boat, named as Arlyn was manned by Orlando Demetillo and his crew Anthony, Rocky and Orly.

According to Demetillo, this is the 7th time that they became the champion in the paraw race and he had been joining this since 1972.

He and his crew’s livelihood is fish diving. He said they prepared for this race by ensuring that the angler is in good condition. In fact, they didn’t have any practice at all. “It’s expensive,” he said.

Ilonganon, Kahilwayan rule Dinagyang 2007

TRIBU Ilonganon defended its crown when it won as the champion in the Ati competition Sunday.

They won P100,000. Their other awards include best in costume during the dance showdown, earning them P10,000; and best in performance, P10,000.

The first runner-up is Tribu Paghidaet, P50,000; second runner-up is Ang Taga Jaro, P40,000; third runner-up is Tribu Silak, P30,000; and fourth runner-up is Tribu Atub-Atub, P20,000.

Tribu Paghidaet was awarded best in music, best in choreography, best choreographer, and best in street dancing.

Tribu Atub-Atub won best in discipline, P10,000; Tribu Molave, best in headdress, P5,000; and Tribu Aninpay, best in costume, P5,000. (more…)

New Hermano and Hermana Mayor installed

THE Hermano and Hermana Mayor for the Feast of Sr. Sto. Nino this year were installed during a turnover ceremony at the San Jose Parish Church last Jan. 19, 2007.

This year’s Hermano and Hermana Mayor are Rito Carlos “Judgee ” Lopez Peña and Sarah Opolencia Peña.

This is their fourth stint as the ‘big brother and big sister’ of the Confradia de Sr. Sto. Niño, the group that is responsible for the religious activities during the Dinagyang Festival. They were Hermano and Hermana Mayores in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Judgee is the son of the late Judge Remegio Peña of Isabela, Negros Occidental and Yolanda ” Bobbie” Lopez, eldest daughter of Don Fernando and Doña Mariquit Javellana Lopez. He is the grandson of the late Philippine Vice - President Fernando Lopez, a sugar planter and fishpond operator.
