5. Wear summer colors and feel the freshness of the season.
6. Talk to your kids about life and living.
7. Brisk walk for a mile or two.
8. Watch the sunset in the boulevard.
9. Water the plants.
10. Go gardening or fishing.
11. Invent and discover new recipes.
12. Join a summer workshop.
13. Go out to the beach or pool for a swim.
14. Read books and learn something.
15. Go biking, hiking, or mountain climbing.
16. Wake up late and have a hearty and leisure breakfast.
17. Clean your room and assort things in your cabinet.

It’s a match

Eight schools in Central Visayas have tied up with industries to ensure a higher hiring rate for their students, especially in industrial, business process outsourcing and tourism establishments in Cebu’s economic drivers.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) 7 Director Ernesto Beltran said schools like the Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise (Cite) and Banilad Center for Professional Development have hiring rates of almost a 100 percent due to the Dual Training System (DTS).

Changing the drill

When government and private sector first tried to market Cebu as the information technology (IT) hub of Asia in 2001, some sectors were caught unprepared.

IT companies scrambled for professionals in software development and programming, engineering and other IT-enabled services.

Schools responded by producing a great number of IT graduates to meet the demand. But inadequately trained students and teachers and an unsatisfactory curriculum in IT courses meant that the industry did not get the skills it needed.
