BEING the first born, the birth of a younger sibling was to me, the end of my reign in the empire i call home. i had fears on being set aside and be counted as second best. AS SUPERMAN returns, the old question surfaces anew: “Can Kal-El have a son with Lois Lane?”
Comic-book enthusiasts, theorists and coffee-shop habitués have long argued over sundry matters pertaining to the famous superhero. “Alien sperm,” so goes one argument, “cannot fertilize a human ova!” Someone maintains, “Superman’s sperm is too strong, it will shoot through Lois Lane’s uterus!” And the most common rebuttal goes, “Of course not, he’s not human!” That bone of contention was broached, too, in the movie “Mallrats” though no resolution was reached.
Now comes director Bryan Singer’s take, and he has actually dared to address this issue in a medium with so much worldwide reach and appeal. That he did so speaks a lot of his love of Superman, and of comics in general. In doing so, he showed us the humanity in the Man of Steel.
