S’cool’ Time!
By Joseph Earl A. Ermita, USC-SSC
THE warmest time of the year, when the sun is sooo up there and getting a tan is a fad, is almost over. Flip flops will undeniably be used less, and we’ll be digging to find that old pair of black shoes. Others could be in malls right now, shopping for a new one. Siblings sun and sand will become cousins for a while and school and you will be as tight as best-friends-for-life.
But hey, it’s not that bad! Good thing we don’t need to find solace because we can find a zillion reasons to be excited about school. And the timing is just perfect, as we are about to cross the line between boredom and missing the people we study with. What could be more exciting than seeing our crush in school, our funny or weird yet worth-listening to professors and clinging to our barkadas and making a fuss about the fact that we are studying. Those are just a few paradoxical reasons to go back to school.
It’s not stereotyping, but going to schools is the proven and tested way to become who we want to be. I hope that I don’t sound like your ma and pa but school is important. Unlike what some students say, being in school is not that boring. All that is needed is to lighten up and be in shape to go.
As a legitimate body that strengthens students’ concerns (read: adding more fun to school activities), the University Of San Carlos-Supreme Student Council (USC-SSC) planned the “Dayon ’08”, which will run from June 10 to 14.
The USC-SSC is the highest governing student body among all the other student organizations in the university. Year in and year out, the body hopes to continue to be the vehicle that would always promote and advance the welfare and rights of the students, and foster solidarity among other sectors in the campus.
This year, in an endeavor to efficiently perform its task as the highest governing student organization and to uphold every Carolinian’s welfare, the USC-SSC has collectively recognized the need to launch “DAYON ‘08: Usa Ka Semanang Pakiglambigit, Pakighiusa ug Kasadya.”
DAYON ‘08 is a week-long activity that will be held on the first week of the new Academic Year. This project is initiated to welcome the freshmen and continuing students in the University in a warm and festive celebration of brotherhood and camaraderie, where everyone could get along with every Carolinian, and also to organize the student body for greater causes.
Last year’s DAYON proved to be a great venue for the Supreme Student Council and the student organizations to work hand in hand and be united for a noble cause, and that is to give every Carolinian the welcome that they all deserve.
We will be having the battle of the wits and gender sensitivity discussions. As a culminating activity, we will be launching the Hello Concert on June 14, with guest bands like Junior Kilat, Powerspoonz, Mungkanghan, Picture Filled, Mindfool, Campbell, Streets of May and Stallions of the Burning Church will be there to play their music. Other homegrown bands will also be there.
And that’s the zillionth reason for you to enjoy S”cool” time! (Sun.Star Cebu Zup!)
