ONE month has passed since students went back to school, getting back to jotting notes, reading chapter after every chapter of textbooks and piling papers up on your study table. And now, the month of July is about to start, and so is the Nutrition Month celebration.

It’s time for some reality check, and find out whether you are keeping yourself healthy in school or your health condition is deteriorating while studying and reading books during the wee hours of the morning. There surely is no better time to change your eating habits and lifestyle than now. As we all observe Nutrition Month this July, it would help to strike a good balance between keeping a healthy lifestyle and playing your role as a student. While you study and work hard to get those high marks, it would be good to avoid getting sick and having to get re-admission slips from your professors and from the dean’s office.

Balance Time

Strike a good balance on time. Study earlier when you have to, not just hours earlier but even days or weeks ahead of the exam to avoid cramming. By doing so, you can have a time for rest and a good night’s sleep before your exam day since you do not have to stay awake till the wee hours for some last-minute reading. Stay away from television unless really necessary. If possible, study weeks earlier so that come examination time, all you have to do is just review some of the key pointers of the subject.

Eat Healthy

Food safety can never be guaranteed, especially when eating outside your home. So it is important to choose the food you eat. Junk food contains sodium chloride that can cause dizziness and heartburn. So be sure to choose your snacks, too. Also, bringing a bottle of water with you could be a great idea, more so when it gets too hot outdoors.

Eat a hearty breakfast before going to school to have an energy-packed day, ready to endure the challenges in the classroom and campus activities.

Avoid Pollutants

A handkerchief is also something worth brining to cover your mouth and nose with, and help protect you from the polluted air when walking outside the campus. Air pollution may also cause dizziness and might affect your performance in school. Lastly, bringing an umbrella is a must to keep yourself from getting wet during heavy rains.

This Nutrition Month, we hope that we have given you tips on how to improve your performance in school by maintaining a healthy lifestyle all throughout the school year.  Celebrate Nutrition Month by sharing tips on how to stay healthy while in school. (Sun.Star Cebu Zup!)
