That’s right, Kidsters! There are ways on how not to get angry at our classmates, siblings, elders, helpers, or even at our pets. Another way of saying it is there are ways on how to control our emotions.
Even when I am already this age, I still find it hard to control my temper or not get angry, especially when others really make you lose your patience. A relative of mine who lives in the U.S. and is a military man, sent me an email giving tips on how to control emotions.
Cousin Vikthor Festin calls it “the rules of practicing ‘ugaling langit, ugaling kaaya-aya.” To translate in English, heaven-like manner, well-liked manner. Read the rest…

Because of our recent experience in seeing the dolphins in garbage-littered waters, my brother Lyan and I have come up with earth-friendly tips for kids vacationing this summer.
• Throw your trash properly. — That’s what trashcans are for. Never throw your garbage in seas, rivers, or just about anywhere.
• Keep trash with you. — When riding in a car, boat or plane, or if a trashcan is not available, keep your trash in a small bag or container. Throw it in a garbage can as soon as you get off. Do the same whenever you’re watching a movie in the cinema. A snack bag or gum wrapper can still make a big difference against pollution.

When struck with boredom, people sometimes do things to entertain themselves, like reading a book, or drawing a funny cartoon. It’s what adults do to keep them relaxed, or just to kill time.
But kids are different.
I remember when I was a kid that whenever I got bored and lonely, I would suck my thumb just to feel better. It was a very wet (and salivating) experience. It was an everyday “thing” that I did whenever I felt the need to relieve myself from boredom and loneliness. My Mom would scold me whenever she caught me sucking my thumb. According to my dear “Mama”, it was a big “No, no”. My “thumb sucking” stuck until I was 4 and I couldn’t remember when I stopped. Read the rest…
