That’s right, Kidsters! There are ways on how not to get angry at our classmates, siblings, elders, helpers, or even at our pets. Another way of saying it is there are ways on how to control our emotions.

Even when I am already this age, I still find it hard to control my temper or not get angry, especially when others really make you lose your patience. A relative of mine who lives in the U.S. and is a military man, sent me an email giving tips on how to control emotions.

Cousin Vikthor Festin calls it “the rules of practicing ‘ugaling langit, ugaling kaaya-aya.” To translate in English, heaven-like manner, well-liked manner.

The first rule is the first one to get mad has the right to it. So just keep quiet.

Secondly, there is no person who fights alone. If you don’t answer the angry person, then he will just stop fighting with you.

Thirdly, an angry person is deaf. People who are angry cannot hear anyone because he is busy listening to himself getting angry. So, don’t try to explain and fight back.

Cousin Vickthor says an angry person is ‘abnoy.’ According to a pastor, there is a biblical reference to this when the Lord said when He was being crucified: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” The modern term for these people are ‘abnoys.’

Finally, the best part of seeing one getting angry at you is to tell yourself that because of this person, you will grow in character and mature.

Learn to accept them and to have patience with them. So Kidsters, it’s not worth it getting into a fight with an angry or highly emotional person.

Most of the important commercial and cultural activities happened in this place. It also embraced most of the residences of many distinguished personalities then.

The Yap-Sandiego house is one of them. This 18th-century house was built through the efforts of Chinese merchant, Juan Yap and wife Maria Florido. The couple’s eldest of three children, Maria, married Pari-an’s Cabeza de Barangay then, Don Mariano Sandiego.

For most of its years standing in the historic district of the city, the house served as a boarding house for students. In recent years through, after being acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Val Sandiego, it underwent restoration work. Wood partitions that were made for boarding units were taken out to bring back the original multi-use nature of a wall-less space.

According to Arnold Sancover’s article on cebuheritage.com, the plan of the owners was to make way for an art gallery in the ground floor and a museum at the second level. (compiled by the United Architects of the Philippines - Sugbu Chapter)

That’s Right

I just came across a write up by an elementary school student from Carmona Elementary School in Carmona, Cavite published in the year 2006 in their official school and community paper called “The Central Point.” The title of Joe Mark B. Mercado’s piece is “Lincoln’s 10 ‘cannots’ and I would like to share it with you. Joe says these were the ten ‘cannots’ that the US President Abraham Lincoln followed that made him a successful person. Lincoln’s mother died when he was just 9 years old. Here they are:

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
3. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
4. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
5. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
6. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
8. You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
9. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.

10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

That’s right, Kidsters! Think about these 10 ‘cannots’ and practice these in your lives.

But other students explain-
“Just listen to the teacher’s lecture”

Others don’t have enough money to enroll
Don’t be sad, just stand up tall
Study hard and do your best
And God will always do the rest
