Star Studio Falls in love with Kris Aquino

Posted by admin On January - 28 - 2009

kris31It’s February—the month of hearts. So who better to grace the cover of this month’s issue of Star Studio than Kris Aquino?

Not only does Kris’s birthday fall on Valentine’s Day, but her love story is one for the books. In this issue, she tells Star Studio what life with her husband James Yap—whose birthday falls on the same day as hers—is like and how they make their marriage work despite their differences.

The couple also appears in a fashion editorial wearing their collection of Custo Barcelona shirts, which is also their first time to ever appear in such a feature.

Kris also shared fashion and makeup tips (plus photos of her very own makeup collection which she uses for work every day), photos of her recent trip to Macau with her family and much more in the 23-page feature that the Star Studio team put together. Yes, you read that right—23 pages of this month’s issue have been dedicated to one of show biz’s most fascinating people. Consider it a fitting tribute to Kris on her birthday.

One of the best parts of the Kris feature is a fashion spread on one of her absolute fashion must-haves—the little black dress, or LBD as some call it. We show you the ones that Kris owns and we tell you how you can steal her look for less.

In this issue, we also have back-to-back stories on two of today’s hottest stars. Jericho Rosales and Cristine Reyes bare their souls and their bodies, in Back Where He Belongs and As She Sizzles, respectively. And if you really love Echo and Cristine, then you won’t want to miss our giant poster, which features sexy solo photos of them, shot by celebrity photographer Doc Marlon Pecjo.

We also have a story on Pops Fernandez, in which she discusses the most anticipated concert event of 2009 to date—her onstage reunion with ex-husband Martin Nievera.

All that and more in StarStudio’s February issue, available where magazines are sold for P85. Grab a copy and fall in love now! (Press Release)

Love Me Again

Posted by admin On January - 17 - 2009

Lovebirds may find this Star Cinema film a pre-Valentine treat.

The first movie team-up of Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual, “Love Me Again (Land Down Under),” showcases the best of Bukidnon and Australia.

Angel plays a role of a cowgirl named Arah who goes to the Land Down Under (other term used referring to Australia) to seek greener pastures for her family and a cowboy named Migo (Piolo).

Migo is madly in love with Arah and would go to the ends of the earth to follow her.

“Love Me Again” had a successful premiere night last January 14, Wednesday. It is now showing in theaters nationwide.

Here are photos taken by Sun.Star Manila reporter Jill Beltran during the premiere night.

Valentine’s Day is a big day for rose growers

Posted by admin On January - 17 - 2009

The thought of roses comes into one’s mind if you think of the Heart’s Day.

Giving flowers — specifically roses — to loved ones on Valentine’s Day has become a trademark for Filipinos as a way of celebrating this special occasion every 14th day of February.

And for rose growers, Valentine’s Day means an opportunity to double their income.

Diosdado Bores, a cut flower farmer in a mountain barangay in Cebu, said their sales on February 14 would balloon to P5,000.

“We earn an average of P2,000 a week on regular days. But on Valentine’s Day, we earn between P4,000 to P5,000,” he said.

Diosdado has planted Holland roses in 15 plots for three years now. He has four varieties – black (dark red), red, pink, and white.

According to him black and white roses are the expensive variety. “Even on regular days, the black and white roses are being sold at P50 per dozen. Others – pink and red – are only at P30 per dozen on regular days,” he explained.

However, he added that on peak season – Valentine’s Day and All Souls’ Day – red and pink roses are sold at P50 per dozen.

The price of black and white roses would also increase, he said. (JRF/Sunnex)

Biblical Love Quotes

Posted by admin On January - 17 - 2009

“Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.”

(2 Corinthians 13: 4-7, The Message)

* * * * *

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

(1 John 4:18 New International Version)

* * * * *

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

(1 Peter 4:8, New International Version)

* * * * *

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

(1 John 4:7-12, New International Version)

* * * * *

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

Hate Valentine’s Day?

Posted by admin On January - 16 - 2009

By Melanie T. Lim

DO YOU hate Valentine’s Day? If you do, you can’t be blamed.

This is the day almost guaranteed to make everyone feel insecure, inadequate or unloved—whether you’re alone or in love, perennially attached or recently detached, in a long, sleepy relationship that promises to go nowhere or in a new one that’s making you dizzy with delight.

Those who are alone feel rejected. Those who are in love are often disappointed. Why did he choose pink over red? Why didn’t he get me my favorite flowers? Why didn’t I get any flowers, at all? Is his affection waning? Is he trying to tell me something? Am I being dense here? Is there someone else? Has that dreaded moment of abandonment finally come?

Yes, Valentine’s Day is almost guaranteed to make everyone psychotic. And the day doesn’t even have to fall on a full moon.

For this is the day that seems to scream to those who have no one: YOU ARE ALONE! By some grand design, it is as if a neon sign finds its way to your house and hangs outside your door to conspicuously announce to everyone passing through—occupant of this dwelling: DATELESS and DESPERATE!

And yet, this is also the day when you realize the one you are with may not be the one you should be with for the rest of your life because he shamelessly asks you the day before the most romantic day of the year, what he got you last year.

This day is the defining moment for many relationships—the day when expectations rise higher than regular and disappointments drown faster than usual. As for the recently detached, perennially unattached or wanting to so desperately detach, this is the day when all our miseries are somehow magnified.

Still, why hate Valentine’s Day?

Why must we love if love cannot last? Because love does not have to be eternal to make a difference in our lives forever. To know that love cannot last is no cause not to celebrate. The fact that love exists, at all, is cause enough to celebrate. To love is a blessing. To be loved back is a gift. But to be loved forever is a tad supernatural.

I used to hate Valentine’s Day. Today though, albeit still alone but rarely lonely at over 40, I just can’t shore up enough energy to hate a day with so much passion as I did when I was alone, lonely and 20.

But I didn’t know then what I know now—that solitude is bliss and loneliness is a blessing. That you don’t have to be alone to be lonely as you don’t have to have a date to be happy. That to be alive, happy and healthy, to be productive, contented and free, to live a life of significance—are reasons enough to celebrate Valentine’s Day—more than being with someone significant.

So go out there and have a ball if you must. As for me—I’ll be home sipping my frappuccino and smiling for reasons I will never have the gall to write about.

Kissing couples

Posted by admin On January - 16 - 2009

Lovapalooza is a much-awaited event for the month of February.

You would see lovers, couples, sweethearts age 18 and up simultaneously kissing to bag world records.

Dubbed as the biggest Valentine bash, lovebirds joining Lovapalooza also enjoy concerts and performances from their favorite artists.

In 2006, Close-Up Lovapalooza was held at the FGU lot Ayala Business Park in Cebu City.

SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila meanwhile was the venue of 2008’s Close-Up Lovapalooza.

This year, organizers of the Lovapalooza are yet to reveal their lined-up activities.

But people are already expecting for a great Valentine date where they express their love with a romantic kiss at the Lovapalooza.

If Maybe
Lyrics by Johannes Jumadla
Music by Johannes Jumadla

I
If I was so brave I'd tell you how I feel
You would have known all the love I knew
If I was so bold I'd show you all this mixed
Emotions I keep when I see your face

II
If I had the courage to walk out to you
I would have followed every step you make
If I had the courage to speak out to you
you would have heard what my heart would say

chorus
...and maybe, just maybe you will love me too
in the way, the way that i do
...and maybe, just maybe you will love me too
and that's the way, the way that we do

III
if I had the courage to break all this chains
I would have crossed the walls that were built in between
If I knew exactly what I had to do
Then you might have fallen, fallen for me to

repeat chorus

bridge
And what if you already do
Would you have to fade away?
And what if you felt the same
Would you have to let it die?

Adlib
Then repeat chorus

coda
And maybe... just maybe...
I know you do...
...Love me too
