UNITED States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. and Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia will inaugurate new street in the Gawad Kalinga village in Sugbo, Minglanilla, Cebu City on September 17.
In a statement, the US embassy in Manila said that Thomas and Garcia will present the keys to new homeowners during the inauguration.
Sugbo is the biggest Gawad Kalinga village in Cebu province, occupying more than nine hectares of land.
Minglanilla Mayor Eddie Selma, Gawad Kalinga founder Tony Meloto and representatives from Lexmark will also grace the event to congratulate the new homeowners.
Lexmark, Gawad Kalinga’s primary corporate sponsor for this project, is a US-based technology company that has pledged to build 150 homes in the village.
Employees from Lexmark, as well as US Navy personnel, have volunteered to spend a day building new housing units in the Gawad Kalinga village.
The event takes place alongside the “America in 3D” program — a three-day event that will be held from September 16 to 18 in Cebu City.
It was sponsored by the US embassy and its partners. (CVB/Sunnex)
