MANILA--President Benigno Aquino III has invited Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and other members of the Imperial Family to visit the Philippines.
The invite was extended in a joint statement issued by both the President and Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda after they attended a bilateral summit meeting at the Prime Minister's Office in Toyko, Japan.
Aquino invited the Imperial Family to visit the country at a "mutually convenient opportunity."
Emperor Akihito is the eldest son and the fifth child of Emperor Hirohito (the Showa Emperor) and Empress Kojun.
President Aquino also invited Prime Minister Noda to visit the Philippines in 2012, an invitation to express his profound gratitude for the warm hospitality accorded him and his delegation by the Government of Japan during his four-day official working visit to Japan.
