Robbers hit jewelry store inside Oro mall

CAGAYAN DE ORO – Robbers held up a jewelry store inside the SM City mall here Tuesday evening carting at least P100,000 worth of jewelry.

Mall customers Karlia and Moira decided to go to a shoe shop at the second floor of the mall after having dinner around 7:30 p.m. before planning to go home.

Ejercito: Aquino impeachment won’t prosper

OPPOSITION Senator JV Ejercito said he will not support the move to impeach President Benigno Aquino III as he explained that this will only cause more divisiveness and will not help the country politically and economically.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Ejercito said the popularity of the President has not declined enough and has not dropped to a critical level that impeachment can become a possibility.

Budget chief: No allocation under DAP to pay Luisita owners

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) denied Tuesday that the Aquino administration released funds through the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) to compensate the family of President Benigno Aquino III, landowner of Hacienda Luisita.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad made the statement following the allegation of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) chair Rafael Mariano.

Palace open to proposal to convert Bataan nuclear plant

MALACANANG is looking into a possibility of converting the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) into a natural gas-powered facility to ease the country's growing demand for energy.

Plunder complaint filed vs Binays

A COMPLAINT for plunder has been filed Tuesday against Vice President Jejomar Binay, his son Makati City mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., and several members of the city council, for their alleged involvement in the irregular P1.56-billion Makati Parking Building project.

In a complaint affidavit filed at Office of the Ombudsman, lawyer Renato Bondal and Ching Enciso, lead convenor of Save Makati Movement, said the Binays in connivance with several councilors allegedly used questionable means to obtain a loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).

SC won’t stop Aquino from picking new justice yet

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III can still select the next associate justice of the Supreme Court (SC) after no stay order was issued by the magistrates in their regular session on Tuesday.

The Court only ordered Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. to comment within 10 days on the petition of Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza, who protested his exclusion from the shortlist of nominees submitted to Aquino on June 30.

Lawmakers studying proposal to give Aquino emergency powers

ADMINISTRATION lawmakers are studying a proposal by the Department of Energy (DOE) urging President Benigno Aquino III declare a state of emergency in the power sector this year to address a potential supply shortfall in Luzon by summer of next year.

House committee on energy chairperson Reynaldo Umali said that they are now studying the possibility of giving emergency powers to Aquino but Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla should first confirm that there really an impending electricity shortage by next year.

Anti-DAP petitioners told to comment on Palace appeal

THE Supreme Court (SC) directed petitioners against the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) on Tuesday to comment on Malacañang's appeal to the decision that declared key parts of the economic stimulus package unconstitutional.

The Court gave the petitioners such as the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and Christian sects led by Greco Belgica 10 days to file their opposition.
