P6.3B of illegal drugs seized in 2014

ABOUT P6.3-billion worth of illegal drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals were confiscated last year, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Saturday.

The amount was 16.7 percent higher from 2013 figures, said PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac.

Aquino meets with families of slain cops for 13 hours

AFTER getting flak for not attending the arrival honors for the over 40 fallen members of the Special Action Force at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, President Benigno Aquino III made it a point to talk to the families of each of the slain cops even if it took him 13 hours on Friday.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that since Aquino arrived around 10:00 a.m. at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City where he attended the necrological service for the 44 SAF members, he only left the police headquarters at almost 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- An estimated P28 million structural damage has been pegged by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) after the fire at Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Hall of Justice was put out at 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, January 31.

The two-storey building has a floor area of 2,800 square-meters. Damages per court branch are still being assessed.

2 Air Force pilots killed in crash in Batangas

TWO Philippine Air Force (PAF) pilots were killed when a training plane crashed in Nasugbu, Batangas Saturday morning, a local government official said.

Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste said the two-seater SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 training plane, which came from Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, crashed 150 meters off the coast of Barangay Wawa in Nasugbu town.

THE anti-graft court Sandiganbayan has convicted executives of a local water district in Leyte province for excessive salary.

The court found general manager Ranulfo Feliciano and Board of Directors (BOD) member Cesar Aquitania, former executives of the Leyte Metropolitan Water District (LMWD), for malversation and violation of Section 3(e) of Republic Act No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) for authorizing the increase in the salary of the general manager without proper authority.
