ANOTHER illegal seller of a Globe WiMAX connection was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Globe Security team and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police in Danao City, Cebu.

The suspect was identified as Ronald Derecho, a cellphone shop owner.

Confiscated from Derecho were seven units of Globe WiMAX modems inside his shop located across Danao Terminal near Gaisano Mall.

The investigation revealed that Derecho sold the broadband modems for P6,500 a piece, which provided users with lifetime internet connection.

According to a Globe Security report, one of the most popular cases of illegal WiMAX transactions is the one-time payment of subscribers for an unlimited broadband service. The payment ranges from P1,000 to as much as P30,000.

To date, over 30 WiMAX modems have been recovered since entrapment operations began in January this year. The most rampant cases of illegal WiMAX selling and distribution were identified in Pasay, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Antipolo, Bulacan, Caloocan, Sta. Mesa, Bulacan, Laguna, Pampanga, Bohol and Davao.

"We encourage everyone to transact with legitimate sellers and distributors only, preferably from our Globe stores and authorized dealers," said lawyer Froilan Castelo, head for Corporate and Legal Services Group of Globe.

"Rest assured, Globe will continue to work with local government agencies and security forces to protect our subscribers and ensure that they only get quality services and excellent after-sales support from Globe," he added.

To apply for a Globe WiMAX connection, subscribers only need to bring a valid ID, most recent billing statement, and proof of financial capacity to a nearby Globe store.

Subscribers can choose between an internet-only package or a bundled internet and landline package for as low as P795 to enjoy the most stable and most reliable among all wireless broadband technologies in the market today.

Apart from visiting a Globe store, subscribers can also apply for a Globe WiMAX connection online via
