MANILA – Just like last year, government employees will be given additional P10,000 holiday bonus in a form of productivity enhancement incentive (PEI).

President Benigno Aquino III confirmed Thursday that he already approved the PEI, which the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) earlier said would cost P11.68 billion.

“There is a P10,000 productivity enhancement incentive, which is due to be given by December 15,” Aquino told reporters.

About 1.67 million state workers will be given additional bonus, according to DBM.

Aquino explained that the P10,000 will be on top of the 13th month pay and the P5,000 cash gift given to all government employees that are both mandated by law.

Citing a "stable fiscal situation", Budget Secretary Florencio Abad earlier said that the national government will be funding the entire P10,000 bonus unlike last year where only the P7,000 were shouldered by the national treasury while the remaining P3,000 came from the savings of the respective agencies.
