SPORTS reporter Mary Ann Grace Natividad Panganiban known as "Maan Panganiban" succumbed to cancer Sunday night.
Panganiban's friend, who refused to be named, said the former varsity volleyball player died of lymphoma during an emergency operation in a hospital.
Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system.
The source, who was also a volleyball player from the Far Eastern University, could not say in what hospital the 25-year-old Panganiban died.
"She's a good friend," the source said.
Condolences flooded at the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook for the former University of the Philippines (UP) player.
Panganiban's remains reportedly lie in state at the El Capitan Memorial Chapel in Marikina City.
Panganiban's body will be brought to the UP Chapel Tuesday.
Panganiban was a former University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and Shakey’s V-League court side reporter and had worked as a reporter in the Kapatid network. (Tashuana Alemania/Sunnex)
