CAGAYAN DE ORO -- A man who was wanted in connection with the attempt to kill broadcast journalist James Licuanan was taken into custody Tuesday after he surrendered to a military official in Misamis Oriental.
Misamis Oriental police chief Graciano Mijares said the uncle of suspect Baldomero Pajo approached Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Gapuz of the Army's 403rd Brigade and sought help for his nephew’s surrender.
Cagayan de Oro City police chief Gerardo Rosales said Pajo turned himself in to authorities but denied any involvement in the crime. He told police he only wanted to clear his name.
Pajo, along with another suspect Wenceslao Diaz, are facing frustrated murder charges before a local court for attempting to kill Licuanan on November 14, 2011.
Licuanan was walking home from his work at Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro when suspects on a motorcycle shot him in the buttocks at Capt. Vicente Roa st. in Cagayan de Oro City.
Diaz is a subject of an ongoing manhunt. (Sunnex)
