MANILA -- The prosecution panel believes Chief Justice Renato Corona failed to declare around P28.5 million as “cash and investments” in his 2010 statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN).

This developed after Leonora Dizon, branch manager of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Ayala, disclosed that Corona’s account had an ending balance of P12 million in December 2010.
If to be computed along with the balance of his two PSBank accounts, the amount would reach close to P32 million. Corona only declared P3.5 million cash in his 2010 SALN.
Corona’s two PSBank accounts as of December 2010 had balances of P12.58 million and P7.15 million.
“Obviously, there is a big discrepancy,” prosecution spokesperson Lorenzo “Erin” Taňada told reporters in a press briefing. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
