Bridge in Zambo del Sur collapsed

A BRIDGE connecting Barangay Tolan, Mahayag and Dumingag in Zamboanga del Sur province collapsed early morning Friday due to flood brought about by heavy downpour, the national disaster council reported.

Flooding also occurred in Dapitan City in the same province Thursday, affecting 3,263 families or 13,052 persons in at least 12 barangays in the city as of this posting.

One house was reported washed out, while the bridge in Mahayag remains impassable. National highways in Dapitan were also closed to vehicular traffic, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) in its latest report.

Affected villages in Dapitan City are Barcelona, Oyan, Opao, Ba-ao, Burgos, Sulangon, Polo, Tamion, Diwa-an, Sinonoc, Owaon, and Ilayan.

The families affected by the flooding were evacuated to different schools, churches, while others were moved to the houses of their relatives.

No casualty was reported.

In Misamis Occidental, flooding also occurred in the municipalities of Tudela and Clarin around 9 p.m. Thursday, while a landslide incident was reported along Maharlika Highways, Sapang Dalaga, causing traffic for almost four hours, said the NDRRMC.

Fifty-five families or 275 persons were affected, as 26 houses were destroyed and three damaged.

The affected families were evacuated to barangay halls.

Authorities are monitoring the situation, while rescue equipment and personnel were dispatched to conduct rescue operations. (Sunnex)
