Filipino singers mourn Whitney Houston's death

FILIPINO artists are mourning the untimely death of pop music's queen Whitney Houston. She died Sunday morning (Philippine time) at the age of 48.

Local artists like Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Christian Bautista have expressed their grief over Houston's death on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Padilla said that it is a sad day for her as she grew up listening to Houston songs. "Such a sad day. I grew up singing your songs, Whitney Houston. Your memory and music will live on in our hearts," she tweeted.

"Another icon in the music industry has passed away, rest in peace Whitney Houston, let's remember her for the musical legacy she has shared," Bautista said in his official Twitter account.

Valenciano, for his part, thanked Houston "for being an inspiration" not only to musical performers, but to everyone around the world.

"Your music will live on and on. There can be miracles… WHEN YOU BELIEVE" Thank u… though you've been through so much, you still inspired us," he tweeted.

Filipina international pop star Charice said on Twitter, "I still can't believe this. I'm really shocked and sad. I feel like I lost a relative. I'm gon cry. I'm shaking. Love u Whitney (sic)."

Other local celebrities have also expressed their grief on Twitter over Houston's demise.

Houston, who was born in August 9, 1963, was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. at the Beverly Hilton hotel in California.

She won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards and more than 20 American Music awards.

The singer was behind musical hits like "Saving All My Love for You", "Greatest Love of All", "I Wanna Dance with Somebody", "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" and "I Will Always Love You".

The singer was married to R&B singer/songwriter Bobby Brown in July 1992 and had one child with him, Bobbi Kristina.

The couple announced their separation in September 2006 while their divorce was finalized in April 2007.

Houston, who battled drug addiction for years, is reportedly dating on-off again boyfriend Ray-J. (Sunnex)
