Prosecution spokesperson denies P15M house as ‘pure hogwash’

Monday, February 13, 2012

MANILA -- Deputy Majority Leader Romero Frederico “Miro” Quimbo, one of the spokespersons for the House prosecution panel, denied the accusation of owning a P15-million worth house in Quezon City and said this was “pure hogwash”.

“I categorically deny owning that house. In fact I have never ever been into that place,” Quimbo said in a press conference before Monday’s impeachment trial.

A report from The Daily Tribune said that Quimbo purchased a house and lot worth “no less than P15 million” in Varsity Hills, Quezon City. To recall, it was the same newspaper, which reported that lead prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr. bought a P50-million mansion.

Tupas earlier clarified that his Xavierville property costs only P14 million. The said property is to be declared in his 2011 statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.

“Had the writer simply asked me, I would have told them there’s absolutely no basis…In fact, it (report) constitutes libel. I wish the writer displayed more diligence. I could have readily showed to that individual that it's pure hogwash,” Quimbo said.

Quimbo said they expect more accusations like these in the coming weeks. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
