Classes suspended in Albay
Thursday, February 16, 2012
EDUCATION officials in Bicol Region suspended Thursday classes in Albay due to overflowing river.
The Department of Education in its official Twitter account @DepEd_PH said "DepEd Region 5 reports Bicol river overflow. No classes in ALBAY today, Feb 16, 2012."
The suspension of classes covered preschool, elementary and high school levels.
The river overflowed due to heavy rains brought about by a low pressure area (LPA) in Mindanao.
As of 2 a.m. Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) estimated the LPA to be 100 kilometers east of southern Mindanao.
Pagasa said the LPA may cause flash floods and landslides in Bicol and Visayas. (Sunnex)
