Cebu City Hall employee receives award
Wednesday, February 22, 2012
THE Cebu City Council awarded Wednesday Assistant City Treasurer for Operations Tessie Camarillo for being an “outstanding individual”.
The awarding was supposed to be done during the Charter Day celebration on February 24 but Mayor Michael Rama said he won't sign the recommendation to award Camarillo during the celebration.
Councilor Jose Daluz III earlier said the award for outstanding individuals should be given to an “outsider” and not an organic City Hall employee like Camarillo.
Rama said, however, that he will not intervene if the Council would include them in the “SP (Sangguniang Panlalawigan) award.”
An SP award is given when the mayor is not keen on signing the award for a certain person or institution.
Councilor Margarita Osmeña submitted a resolution recommending Camarillo and five others as outstanding individuals.
Camarillo was recommended to receive an award for ably presenting the sources of funds for the 2012 annual budget despite repeated statements from the mayor that she is not the recognized acting city treasurer.
Osmeña explained that her resolution was based on the recommendation of the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (Chac) and on the commission’s established criteria.
The criteria do not state whether an “organic” City Hall employee cannot be awarded as outstanding individuals.
The other individuals recommended by the council and Chac as Charter Day awardees are John Pages, Senior Inspector Ma. Theresa Macatangay, Judge Francisco Seville, Dr. Wyben Briones, and April Vera Gerona. (Sunnex)
