De Lima orders autopsy on hazing victim

MANILA -- Justice Secretary Leila de Lima ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a re-autopsy on the body Marvin Reglos, a student of the San Beda Law School, who was killed in fraternity initiation rites in Antipolo City on Sunday.

Also, de Lima appealed on Wednesday to her "brothers" in the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity to cooperate in the investigation being conducted by the NBI. De Lima was a co-founder of the allied sorority of Lambda Rho, the Lambda Rho Sigma.

The justice chief met Wednesday with the victim's father who appealed for justice for his son's death.

Reglos's father asked de Lima to determine the identities of all those who participated in the hazing that resulted in his son's death.

Reglos, a neophyte member of the fraternity, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Unciano Medical Center in Antipolo City on Sunday night.

De Lima said that she will ask officials of the fraternity to help shed light in the investigation and bring to justice those involved in the hazing.

The Philippine National Police earlier arrested two individuals believed to be involved in the hazing but de Lima directed the NBI to conduct a parallel probe and designate a medico-legal officer to conduct the re-autopsy of the victim upon the request of the victim's family.

De Lima said she will also ask the PNP and the NBI-Death Investigation Division to invite for questioning the known officers of the fraternity, noting that the two suspects arrested have refused to talk to the police as to whom were with them during the initiation rites or who participated in inflicting pain on the victim.
