MANILA -- President Benigno Aquino III's spokesmen decided on Wednesday to gag themselves from issuing any comment on the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, in a news briefing, said the only time that he and deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte will issue the statement is when Aquino is being dragged on the issue.

"We would like to withhold comments on the impeachment trial," he said.

"We will comment when the President is being dragged into the impeachment...if and when the President is being unfairly criticized or being dragged into the issue, then we will respond. So, you can still get comments from us once in a while," Lacierda said.

He said that Malacañang would just allow the impeachment spokespersons to talk on the matter because they are more familiar on the issue.

"We just decided to say, let’s focus on the other matters on hand and it’s better for us to let the spokespersons give their opinions rather than us because they are primarily active on the impeachment," he explained. (SDR/Sunnex)
