3 quakes hit Eastern Samar

STATE seismologists recorded three tremors hitting two provinces in Eastern Visayas Wednesday night.
The first quake with magnitude 4.9 occurred at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday 15 kilometers southwest of Naval in Biliran province. It was tectonic in origin.
Intensity five was felt in Naval, Biliran and Calubian, Leyte; intensity four in Kawayan, Almeria and Culaba in Biliran and Leyte, Leyte; intensity two in Palompon, Leyte and Tacloban City; and intensity one in Cebu City.
The first quake was followed by a 2.7-magnitude quake at 7:56 p.m. southeast of Kawayan, Biliran. It was tectonic in origin.
Intensity two was felt in Kawayan, Biliran and Calubian, Leyte.
The third, with magnitude 4.8, occurred 9 p.m. 64 kilometers northeast of Mercedes, Eastern Samar. It was tectonic in origin.
No aftershocks were reported from the three quakes, but Biliran Mayor Leandro Enage, in a television interview Thursday morning, said cracks were seen in several establishments in the province.
He said inspection of all public buildings in the province will continue today, Thursday, while private buildings will be handled by their respective engineers. (Sunnex)
