MONTERREY, Mexico — A Mexican official said gunmen threw grenades and opened fire on two buildings belonging to the El Norte newspaper in the northern state of Nuevo Leon.
A Nuevo Leon state police officer said no one was injured in the Tuesday attacks but that the buildings were damaged.
The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case, said the first attack was before dawn in the Monterrey suburb of Guadalupe. The second was in Monterrey.
The media in Mexico have come under attack as drug cartels wage a war to control smuggling corridors into the United States.
Fighting between the Zetas and Gulf drug cartels has brought a surge of violence and other crimes to the Monterrey region, which is Mexico's third largest. (AP)
