Indian girl in serious condition after rape

NEW DELHI — A 5-year-old girl was in serious condition Saturday after being raped and tortured by a man who held her in a locked room in India's capital for two days, officials said.

The girl went missing Monday and was found Wednesday by neighbors who heard her crying in a room in the same New Delhi building where she lives with her parents, said Delhi police official Deepak Mishra. The girl was found alone locked in a room and left for dead, he said.

Palace: Chacha not needed to boost business climate

MANILA -- Malacanang said Saturday that it will ask the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) to come up with an information campaign on how the public could identify the agency's legitimate official receipts.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigial Valte issued the statement following reports that fake Owwa receipts have been circulating and some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have already been victimized.

Quake jolts China's Sichuan, killing 70

BEIJING — A powerful earthquake jolted China's Sichuan province Saturday near where a devastating quake struck five years ago, killing at least 70 people and leaving more than 2,000 hurt, prompting worries the death toll will climb.

The quake — measured by China's seismological bureau at magnitude-7 and the U.S. Geological Survey at 6.6 — struck the steep hills of Lushan county shortly after 8 a.m. toppling buildings, many of them older brick structures. Tiles fell from roofs and walls collapsed, sending people into the streets in their underwear and wrapped in blankets.

Stranded Chinese boat removed from Tubbataha Reef

MANILA — The Philippine coast guard said a Chinese fishing boat carrying thousands of kilos (pounds) of scaly anteater meat has been removed from a marine sanctuary where it run aground last week.

Coast guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo said the F/V Min Long Yu was towed Saturday to the Palawan provincial capital of Puerto Princesa southwest of Manila, a day after it was extricated from the Tubbataha National Marine Park.

Gov’t center for missing children proposed

China's Sichuan hit by earthquake, killing 2

BEIJING — At least two people were killed Saturday when a powerful earthquake jolted China's Sichuan province near the same area where a devastating quake struck five years ago, with state media warning the casualty toll could climb sharply.

The government's seismological bureau said the quake hit shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday in Lushan county in the city of Ya'an, home to China's famous pandas.

Boston police: Bombing suspect is in custody

MASSACHUSETTS (5th Update, 9:51 a.m.) - A 19-year-old college student wanted in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Friday evening (Saturday, Philippine time) after a manhunt that left the city virtually paralyzed and his older brother and accomplice dead.

Police announced via Twitter that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was in custody. They later wrote, "CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody."

Bomb suspect in boat stored in US neighborhood

WATERTOWN, Massachusetts (Updated 8:43 a.m.) — A law enforcement official said the suspect being hunted in the Boston Marathon bombing is in a boat stored in a Massachusetts neighborhood.

The official said he was briefed on the situation and spoke on condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to discuss it publicly.
