MANILA -- Filipino-American coach Erik Spoelstra will pay a courtesy call to President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang on Thursday afternoon, the National Basketball Association (NBA) said.
Spoelstra, who guided Miami Heat to their second title last June, will be in the Palace from 3 p.m.to 3:30 p.m.
The 42-year-old bench tactician is the first coach of Asian heritage to win the NBA, arguably the world's most successful professional league.
Spoelstra also brought to the country the iconic Larry 'O Brien trophy, which is given to NBA champions since 1984. It is not yet clear if Spoelstra will show the trophy to the President. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
