MANILA -- Entry and exit points in five areas of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) were closed to traffic on Tuesday morning due to deep floods spawned by the monsoon rains.
In a phone interview, NLEx Traffic Control Room Specialist Ella Seratos said the flooded areas include Bocaue, Marilao, Meycauayan, Valenzuela, and Balintawak.
Seratos said the Balintawak portion of the expressway has been flooded since 4 a.m. Meanwhile, flood water level at the Valenzuela portion is chest deep, the NLEx traffic group said in its Twitter account.
The NLEx traffic group added that the flooding was caused by the release of water and overflow of dams and rivers.
Before the entry and exit points in the affected areas were closed to traffic, some private motorists and public buses were stranded while others decided to turn back upon seeing the flooded areas.
No traffic accident caused by the inclement weather has been monitored yet, Seratos said.
At the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, rains have caused landslides in Floridablanca but traffic remains normal, the NLEx traffic group also said in its Twitter account. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
