Shell to enforce price freeze-A A +A
Friday, August 10, 2012
MANILA -- Major oil player Pilipinas Shell will freeze pump prices next week in 11 areas of the country that have been adversely affected by torrential rains and flooding the past few days.
Bobby Kanapi, Shell spokesperson, identified on Thursday these locations as the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Rizal, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Sta. Cruz and Pagsanjan in Laguna; and Bacoor, Kawit and Rosario in Cavite.
“This is to announce that we will not increase prices in these areas next week. We will just monitor after that and look at the next round of adjustments,” Kanapi said.
According to the Shell official, the first three days of trading in the world market showed that an increase in petroleum prices next week was very likely. “The trend during the first three days is upward and is indicative to a hike (next week).”
He said that the fuel price freeze is intended to help the people in the affected areas cope with the deluge of flood victims due to rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
All Shell service stations in the country will also serve as drop-off points for relief goods, cash and other donations that will be distributed to the storm and flood victims. (PNA/Sunnex)
