KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Maguindanao province was bombed by suspected Moro rebels around 9:10 p.m. Friday, a military official said.
Colonel Prudencio Asto, 6th Infantry Division Public Affairs chief, said the blast happened in NGCP Tower 20 in Barangay Layog, Pagalungan, 30 meters away from Cotabato-Davao Highway.
Members of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) under the 38th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army immediately responded in the area.
The Army's 66th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team said that a 60 and 81-millimeter mortar ammunition, with a mobile phone as a triggering device, was used by the bombers.
No one was reported injured in the explosion.
Local officials believed that members of Alkhobar Terror Group or the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement fighters were behind the incident. (Edgardo Fuerzas/Sunnex)
