MANILA -- A detainee who bolted a penal colony in Puerto Princesa City last Friday has been recaptured.
Allan M. Abadillo, 33, resident of Malolos City, Bulacan, was apprehended on September 4 by the Philippine Coast Guard and port police after trying to escape a security compound of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan.
Abadillo told the authorities that he escaped from said prison by breaching the perimeter fence. He then walked towards Iwahig Bridge and took a multicab headed to the city proper.
The escaped detainee then joined the stevedores who were entering the port area on the evening of September 3 and boarded the vessel M/V Joseph, thinking that it was going to depart.
But around 2:30 a.m. of September 4, Abadillo's escape plan failed after he was found by the ship's crew.
Captain Aquilio Malolot, master of M/V Joseph, sought assistance from the coast guard station in Puerto Princesa City regarding Abadillo.
Immediately, Malolot and personnel from the coast guard station and port police boarded the said vessel while at anchorage area.
Abadillo was brought to the office of the port police for his turn-over to the Bureau of Corrections.
Around 4:20 a.m., the escaped convict was properly taken by a prison guard from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
