La Union mayor escapes ambush

MANILA -- Tubao, La Union Mayor Dante Garcia escaped unscathed from an ambush early Sunday morning.

A Bombo Radyo report said the ambush happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday along the Aspiras National Highway in Barangay Lloren in Tubao town while Garcia was driving home.

The still unidentified suspect, who was reportedly onboard a Toyota Innova, fired at the mayor five times but failed to hit Garcia.

Checkpoint was set up by police authorities in the second district of La Union to arrest the suspect.

Police are also investigating the shooting incident to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the ambush. (Sunnex)
