MANILA -- The Philippine government has joined other countries in condemning the killing of United States Ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff in a rocket attack on their car on Tuesday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), in a statement on Thursday, said that the horrific criminal and senseless act of violence in Benghazi, which killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American diplomats, was outrageous and should be condemned by the international community.
"This was a serious violation of long standing norms of international law with deep historical roots that diplomatic and consular agents are not to be harmed and that the diplomatic and consular premises are inviolable," the department said.
The DFA said the Filipino people also condole with the families of the US envoy and the three others who perished while in the performance of their duties, particularly in their efforts to help the Libyan people pursue a just and democratic society. (SDR/Sunnex)
