3 suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen killed in clash

MANILA -- Three suspected Abu Sayyaf group members were killed while a kidnapped Chinese trader was rescued following a clash with government forces in Zamboanga City on Friday morning.
Combined police and military troops caught up with the bandits around 10 a.m. at Calabasa village in Zamboanga City.
Reports said the bandits were led by Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Khair Mundos and one Ajijul Temeng.
The troops recovered three enemy bodies, several firearms and other enemy belongings. Officials were still establishing the identities of the fatalities.
The troops rescued Jampong Linyuan Kai, 38, one of the two Chinese traders -- involved in the buy and sell of ore -- kidnapped by a group of armed men in Zamboanga Sibugay province in June.
The other victim, James Lou, was released by the kidnappers last month in Zamboanga City.
The military initially tagged Waning Abdusalam, head of the Special Operations Group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front who has links with the Abu Sayyaf, as behind the kidnapping. (VR/Sunnex)
