Seven killed, five missing as ferry boat sinks off Tawi-Tawi

MANILA -- Seven people were drowned while five others were still missing as ferry boat foundered off Tampat Point, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi Wednesday.

Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said the M/V Siranan, carrying around 27 passengers and crew, sank off around 4 a.m.

Balilo said the vessel came from Sipangkot Island, which is part of the Sibutu Group, and was headed to Bongao when it encountered heavy waves causing it to sink.

Rescue operations resulted in the recovery of 15 other passengers and the fatalities.

Search operations are still ongoing for the five missing persons. (PNA)
