MANILA -- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Director General Joel Villanueva is officially out of the senatorial ticket of the Aquino-led Liberal Party for next year's elections.

A Palace source said President Benigno Aquino III met with Villanueva in Malacañang Friday to inform him that he wanted the Tesda chief to stay in his agency.

Villanueva is an early favorite to join the LP senatorial line-up.

Villanueva failed to gather enough votes in the recent Pulse Asia survey on possible senatorial candidates in 2013 elections. He placed 26th.

The Liberal Party (LP) is set to reveal its official senatorial line-up by the end of September.

Among the potential LP candidates who made it to the top 10 of the survey are Aurora Representative Sonny Angara (10th), Senator Koko Pimentel (8th), Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (6th), Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (3rd) and Senator Francis Escudero (2nd). (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
