MANILA -- Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon announced Tuesday his decision to drop his senatorial bid for the 2013 elections.

"After consultation with the President (Benigno Aquino III), I have decided to forego my Senate bid and stay in the BOC (Bureau of Customs)," Biazon said in a press conference.

"I've always said and still maintain that I'm happier as a legislator, but the call of duty to pursue the president's reform agenda in BOC is strong," he added.

The ruling Liberal Party (LP) is now considering the BOC official's father, Muntinlupa City Representative Rodolfo Biazon.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian will also not run under the LP slate, his brother, first district representative Rex, said.

"He will run in the first district of Valenzuela and I will try my luck as mayor," Rex, also the spokesperson of the Nationalist People's Coalition, said. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
