MANILA -- Former allies of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who formed the National Unity Party (NUP) will form an alliance with the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in the coming 2013 elections.
The NUP is composed of former members of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi) faction of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, a majority party during the term of Arroyo as President.
LP, on the other hand, is led by Arroyo's successor President Benigno Aquino III.
LP and NUP will sign an agreement on Friday, September 28, just three days before the filing of certificates of candidacy starts.
"NUP will not field senators but LP will have a coalition agreement with it. I'm not sure though if NUP will support our entire slate," House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II said. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
