MANILA -- Police arrested a man who allegedly hacked his ex-girlfriend's Facebook and e-mail accounts and demanded sex in exchange for the new passwords.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the suspect as Joewell Santos Chan, 28, of Moonwalk, Parañaque City, who was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division following a complaint filed by "Maria," his 23-year-old former lover.

Maria told authorities that the passwords of her Facebook and e-mail accounts were changed by an unauthorized user. She also discovered that the security number appearing on her Facebook page matched with the cellular phone number of her former boyfriend.

The victim said Chan admitted that he hacked her accounts and was demanding to meet with her in exchange for the passwords. But she was instead taken to a motel by Chan and forced to drink alcohol before giving the new passwords.

However, Maria said the passwords given to her did not work. She then started refusing Chan's invitations to meet again.

But the suspect allegedly threatened Maria that he will spread the videos and pictures that he took in the motel through the social networking sites if she still refuses to meet. The victim added that Chan demanded sex in exchange for the passwords.

An initial investigation revealed that the suspect created another Facebook account using Maria's name and pictures and that Chan was pretending to be her through the said social networking site.

Maria then sought the help of the police when Chan wanted to meet her again on September 21.

The victim said Chan again demanded to go to a motel. When she refused, the suspect dragged her to his car but authorities immediately responded and arrested the alleged hacker.

Authorities discovered in Chan's cellular phone several images downloaded from the victim's e-mail account as well as text messages for her containing threats, harassment, intimidation, and coercion.

Videos showing Chan abusing the victim while she was sleeping inside his car were also discovered in the suspect's cellular phone including a child pornography video.

The CIDG said Chan will be charged with 100 counts of hacking as well as violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
