'Lawin' death toll climbs to 3

MANILA -- While it continues to move northwest and away from the country, Typhoon "Lawin" claimed another fatality while thousands more were affected by rains and floods, the state disaster agency said Thursday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the latest fatality as Roberto Fontanilla, 62, from Zamboanga del Norte, who died from cardiac arrest amid heavy rains and floods in the region.
Earlier this week, the NDRRMC identified two fatalities including Jessie Ehem Sam, 31, from Bogo City, Cebu who died in a lightning incident while Mark Anthony Mallari, 5, from Zamboanga City, was hit by a falling tree.
A certain Samsudin Moccadam, 27, is still reported missing in Barangay San Vicente, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.
The NDRRMC added that a total of 3,096 families or 7,743 persons in 43 barangays in the Mimaropa region and Zamboanga Peninsula were affected by the typhoon.
The rains and flood spawned by Typhoon Lawin have also damaged about 132 houses in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
