MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III has declared October 5, which falls on a Friday, as a special (non-working) day in the municipality of Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur, in celebration of its "Araw ng Sta. Cruz."

Aquino issued the declaration through Proclamation 476 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on September 18 to give the people of Sta. Cruz the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

Sta. Cruz will celebrate its 128th founding anniversary through a series of events and activities. The municipality was created last October 5, 1884 and it is the third oldest town in Mindanao. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
