MANILA -- Malacañang confirmed Tuesday that President Benigno Aquino III has appointed former Isabela governor Grace Padaca as the newest commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
"Yes, upon verifying with Office of the Executive Secretary, I confirm the appointment papers of Grace Padaca as Comelec Commissioner has been transmitted to Comelec," Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a text message.
Padaca filled the vacancy left by former commissioner Augusto Lagman, who was not reappointed to the post last April.
Padaca is the third appointee of Aquino to the poll body, who came from the ruling Liberal Party camp in the 2010 elections.
The other two were Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes, who served as Aquino's election lawyer in his presidential bid and Commissioner Christian Robert Lim, who was part of the LP campaign team in 2010. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
