MANILA -- Due to heavy rains that pounded the metropolis at dawn Tuesday, classes have been suspended in several areas in the National Capital Region (NCR).

There are no classes from pre-school to high school in Malabon due to high tide, and Pasay City.

In Marikina City, only morning classes are suspended.

Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) has also suspended classes since areas in Sampaloc district are already submerged in floodwater.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the low pressure area (LPA) at the West Philippine Sea has intensified into a tropical storm.

Once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the tropical storm will be known as "Marce". (PNA)
