MANILA -- A former government soldier will be facing cases of estafa and usurpation of authority after he was nabbed for selling fake military identification cards to unlawful elements.
Danilo Paragas, a former member of the Philippine Army, was allegedly responsible in the fabrication and proliferation of fake identification cards for agents of the 5th Military Intelligence Battalion (MIB) and Mission Orders (MOs).
Together with Marcial Tamayo and a certain Edna, the suspect also allegedly pretends to be from the MIB and recruit aspiring confidential agents, according to the Police Regional Office in Cagayan Valley.
Paragas was arrested last September 24 in Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.
The suspects allegedly sell the ID cards and MOs for P500. They also entice recruits by telling them that the said MOs would enable them to carry their firearms even without the necessary license and permit.
Regional police director Rodrigo De Gracia said a number of ID cards and MOs have already been sold to armed groups of local politicians, owners of unlicensed firearms, and members of criminal gangs who need protection for their illegal activities.
De Gracia also warned the public to be cautious so as not to be one of the numerous victims of Paragas' group. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
