MANILA -- Six suspected hijackers, including two policemen, died in two shootouts with pursuing lawmen in Dasmarinas City in Cavite City on Friday dawn, a police official said.
Cavite police director John Bulalacao named the rogue policemen as Police Officer (PO) 1 Junjie Jun Liangco and PO3 Jessie Villanueva, assigned with the Metro Manila Regional Public Safety Battalion and Manila Police District, respectively.
A third suspect, Robert Sison, is a former policemen with the rank of PO2. He had been declared AWOL or absent without official leave since April this year.
The identities of the two other suspects were yet to be established.
Bulalacao said the six suspects were slain when they fought it out with policemen who were following up a hijacking incident. The incident occurred almost simultaneously around 2 a.m. at the villages of Lankaan and San Agustin 3.
Seized from the suspects were a K-9 sub machinegun, two nine millimeter pistols, a caliber 45 pistol, two caliber 38 revolvers, a Mitsubishi Adventure vehicle, a Toyota Vios car, and stolen grocery items.
Bulalacao said the operation was a result of information provided by five of the suspects' cohorts who were arrested by the police a day earlier for involvement in a hijacking incident last October 2 also in Dasmarinas City. (VR/Sunnex)
