LEGAZPI CITY -- A Manila bound-train ran over a teenager who was crossing the railroad track despite loud warning horns in Barangay Sugcad in Polangui, Albay on Friday.
Polangui police chief Jon Retumban said Joseph Cerillo, 17, might have decided to cross the track thinking that the speed of the approaching train was not enough to hit him.
He said that the victim's right leg was severed when the train ran over him. He died on the way to the hospital.
Train driver Jaime Palma said he was surprised when Carillo leaped into the middle of the railroad track.
Palma voluntarily surrendered to the Polangui police after the accident.
In July at least five people, three of them members of a family, died when the tricycle they were riding rammed into an approaching train in San Vicente, Irigay City, Camarines Sur. (PNA)
