QUEZON CITY -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) through its specialized regulatory agency, National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), launched Thursday its television commercial entitled “I-Knock Out ang Botcha” where Sarangani Representative Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao acted as endorser.
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) co-produced the TV commercial to raise public awareness on safety of meat for human consumption. By December, the TVC will be seen in moviehouses.
Agriculture Secrectary Proceso J. Alcala together with NMIS executive director Minda S. Manantan and other officials led the symbolic knocking out of a dummy tainted "botcha" meat.
Representatives from meat processing companies also supported the event.
Meanwhile, nine municipalities signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the NMIS for the Meat Establishment Improvement Program (MEIP). The MEIP aims to help the local government units (LGUs) to rehabilitate public slaughterhouses by providing LGUs with counterpart funding and construction assistance until completion.
Municipalities that inked the MOA were: Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur, Calasiao Pangasinan, Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro, Boac Marinduque, Libon, Albay, Toledo, Cebu, Clarin, Misamis Occidental, Digos, Davao del Sur, and Alabel, Sarangani.
The said event was slated in line with the celebration of the 20th Meat Safety and Consciousness Week and 40th founding anniversary of NMIS. (PCCC-PIA PMD)
