MANILA -- Authorities scored anew against a notorious international drug syndicate after one of its Thai members was busted over the weekend.
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said another Thai female, identified as Sukkasem Raphirat, was intercepted by anti-drug operatives on Sunday afternoon at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The alleged drug mule was carrying 2.98 kilos of shabu hidden in her luggage and arrived on board a flight from Dubai.
The BOC added that Raphirat was on board the same airline and had the same flight schedule with Napaporn Khamsa, another suspected Thai drug courier who was nabbed at the NAIA on Saturday.
The Customs and Investigation and Intelligence Service (CIIS) said Khamsa was caught with 7.5 kilograms of shabu hidden in her luggage.
The BOC noted that both Thai nationals, who are suspected members of the West African Drug Syndicate, had "similar patterns and modus."
The CIIS earlier said the syndicate's new modus operandi uses Southeast Asian nationals as drug mules. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
