MANILA -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has commenced its preparations to ensure an orderly commemoration of this year's All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
In a radio interview, MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said the agency will deploy about 2,300 personnel who will regulate traffic and help in the cleaning of public cemeteries in Metro Manila.
He also noted that those in the metropolis might start heading back to their provinces as early as Thursday this week, since the succeeding day, October 26, has been declared a regular holiday to celebrate Eid'l Adha or the start of the Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
Also in a radio interview, MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez said their personnel have started conducting inspections and clearing operations in cemeteries within Metro Manila.
She also urged the public to start cleaning the graves of their relatives and observe proper waste disposal in the cemeteries.
At least four teams of MMDA personnel will also be deployed this week for the clearing operations and relocation of informal settlers inside cemeteries, Jimenez said in another radio interview. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
