Roxas: Alan Purisima is next PNP chief-A A +A
Tuesday, November 13, 2012
MANILA – Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II on Tuesday expressed his support to the impending appointment of Deputy Director General Alan Purisima as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In an interview in Malacañang, Roxas already referred to Purisima as the "incoming PNP chief."
Purisima, who heads the PNP Directorial Staff, was rumored to be appointed to the PNP replacing Nicanor Bartolome who was asked by President Benigno Aquino III to go on a "non-duty status," which will take effect by early December.
The non-duty status was considered by the President to give Bartolome's replacement enough time to prepare for the mid-term elections in 2013.
The Interior Secretary said he supports the appointment of Purisima to the PNP as he already knows Purisima personally and believes that he is qualified to head the PNP, which is an agency under the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Roxas added that based on his recent discussions with President Aquino, Purisima is his choice to replace Bartolome.
"I support Alan Purisima. The President I believe also is supporting incoming PNP chief Alan Purisima," he said.
"I know Alan Purisima apart from working with him in DILG these last several weeks. I know how he serves and I think he is qualified," he further said.
The President is expected to announce Purisima's appointment in December.
Roxas, meanwhile, said he sees no problem with Bartolome to go on a non-duty status ahead of his retirement date on March 16, 2013. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
